What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Comments

When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

We do not use Gravatar as some comment sites do.

Media

If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website. We do not have a system implemented to strip EXIF from your uploaded media.

Contact forms

When you fill out the contact forms on the contact page, your email, comment data, name provided, and optional subject line are used to automatically generate an email to the site owner address. This email and the data therein are stored as a normal personal email. Consider anything sent through the contact form the same as if it were written as an email to this site’s owner.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracing your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Who we share your data with

No one is given your private data. Site owners do not see your browsing history or track your usage of this site.

How long we retain your data

Additional information

How we protect your data

The site forces the use of HTTPS SSL when visited in a browser to encrypt the user’s experience. Any stored private data such as passwords are kept cryptographically secured and hashed in a database. The communication between the server and the database is also cryptographically secured. Since no security is perfect, it is still recommended that users choose a different password for this site than all others in case of a breach or lost data.

What data breach procedures we have in place

If private information is lost or stolen, including encrypted passwords, a report will be made to the authorities in the US and you will be notified by your contact email if you have one on file.

What third parties we receive data from

We do not have advertising partners. Twitter feeds are sent to the site’s feed bar. Your Twitter data will only appear here if you are retweeted by our site account. Data about users logged into our Discord chat server is sent to the site’s Discord feed. If you are logged into the Discord chat, your username and online status will appear here.

What automated decision making and/or profiling we do with user data

All comments are processed using an automated spam filter which may cause them not to appear or to be rejected upon posting. You do not have the right to approve these comments for display but you do have the right to request your approved comments be removed and deleted from the site.
